Cardona’s salt showcase at the Natural Science Museum of Barcelona

The showcase from 1921 located at the Natural Science Museum of Barcelona, exhibits several saline formations from Cardona that began to deteriorate. It was necessary to adapt the showcase to be able to keep a stable HR inferior to 45%. The best option was to reinforce the showcase’s interior to install an airtight bag to balance the internal pressure resulted from the temperature variations. Preconditioned buffer material is placed inside the showcase (silica gel), which will keep the HR within the desired parameters. The wooden parts were restored by Assumpció Casalod.
